ChaiFlicks and YIVO Institute Launch Content Partnership
Streaming Platform to Make YIVO’s Public Programs Available to Global Subscribers
(Los Angelos, CA) – ChaiFlicks, the world’s leading streaming platform for Jewish storytelling, has entered into a content partnership with the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, the New York-based non-profit that is the world repository of East European Jewish history and culture and the world academy of Yiddish language, it was announced today by ChaiFlicks’ Co-Founder Neil Friedman.
Starting today, ChaiFlicks will begin rolling out a variety of programs from YIVO’s extensive video catalog, inclusive of lectures, talks, and concerts available for subscribers on the ChaiFlicks platform. The programs feature a wide variety of subjects, ranging from the musical works of both old and new Yiddish composers to the comedic talents of iconic performers like the Marx Brothers and Mel Brooks. The content also includes discussions about Yiddish theatre, Jewish food, women writers, political movements, and much more.
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research is dedicated to the preservation and study of the history and culture of East European Jewry worldwide. For nearly a century, YIVO has pioneered new forms of Jewish scholarship, research, education, and cultural expression. The YIVO Archives contains 24 million unique items and YIVO’s Library has over 400,000 volumes — the single largest resource for the study of East European Jewish life in the world.
“We are thrilled to partner with YIVO and continue their mission of disseminating and sharing the beauty of the rich Yiddish language and culture to as wide an audience as possible,” says ChaiFlicks’ Friedman. “We know that our ChaiFlicks subscribers worldwide are the perfect audience to appreciate the wide variety of Yiddish content being made available on the ChaiFlicks platform.”
“Partnering with ChaiFlicks is natural for YIVO, because we both work hard to share Jewish cultural content as widely as we can. We are pleased to be able to expand ChaiFlicks' offerings with a focus on new scholarship, publications, and creative work that bring Jewish history to life," said Alex Weiser, Director of Public Programs at YIVO.
Additional content coming to ChaiFlicks includes Franz Kafka: The Diaries, a discussion with Kafka expert Ross Benjamin bringing to light new details about the life of the famed author; Shostakovich and Weinberg: A Musical Friendship, exploring the intriguing history between famous Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich and Mieczyslav Weinberg, a Jewish composer who was persecuted by the Soviet State; and Isaac Bashevis Singer's "Simple Gimpl," investigating the legacy of Bashevis Singer’s 1945 story “Gimpl tam” and its titular character with writer and scholar David Stromberg.
