YIVO Announces 2022 Yiddish Civilization Lecture Series
(New York, NY) – The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research is pleased to announce the 2022 Yiddish Civilization Lecture Series. Returning for its fourth year, the lecture series introduces audiences to the breadth and depth of Yiddish civilization in Eastern Europe, New York, and around the world. Lectures will occur Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 23 to July 21. Tuesday lectures will be delivered in Yiddish and Thursday lectures in English.
Lectures will cover topics ranging from history and historiography to literature, poetry, folklore, and theater, delivered by some of the field’s leading scholars: James Loeffler, Leyzer Burko, Barry Trachtenberg, Gennady Estraikh, Nina Warnke, Yitskhok Niborski, Sonia Gollance, Marion Aptroot, and Justin Cammy.
Growing out of YIVO's Uriel Weinreich Yiddish Summer Program, a 6-week immersive Yiddish language program offering classes rom beginner to advanced levels and a wide variety of cultural and enrichment activities, the lecture series are part of the Summer Program curriculum, but are also open to a broad public.
